• PCsReginald & Sir Ares gain entry to Shadow Hill.
• PCs ambush Damian, failing to damage him but causing him to retreat.
• The monks refuse to chase after Damian, and Sir Ares suffers a draining attack.
• Damian summons a swarm of bats; the PCs and monks retreat to the basement.
• PCs and monks hold off Damian’s bats until dawn, but they light Shadow Hill ablaze in the process.

Help has arrived

The PCsReginald & Sir Ares learn that a human/bat horror is besieging Shadow Hill. The head monk, Salen, identifies the monster as Damian, a monk who was banished for rebelling against their core beliefs.

Since returning, Damian has vaguely mentioned being the subject of experiments. The monks of Shadow Hill are convinced he’s a vampire now.

The PCs offer their help, and they’re allowed inside the monastery. They give away 12 of their rations.

Ambush

Damian appears later in the night, and the PCs ambush him with poisoned projectiles. These appear to do no damage, but they slow Damian, and cause him to retreat.

The monks are convinced to open the monastery’s front doors, but they refuse to chase down Damian.

Escape

Ares tries to grapple the retreating Damian, but he pushes her away and drains her power (1000xp). The monks reseal the monastery, and a swarm of bats is heard in the distance.

Everyone retreats to the basement, bringing wood from the boarded up windows and one of the back doors.

Basement

The PCs and monks fortify the basement door. A swarm of bats then tears through the monastery, and giant vampire bats start breaking down the basement barricade.

Eventually, part of the bat swarm breaches the basement. The PCs and monks fight for their lives, and 3 monks fall.

During a lull in the battle, Brother Maarten emerges from the shadows - apparently freed by the swarm. He stabs Salen in the back, but is slayed by Reginald before he can finish the job.

Dawn

The PCs light the basement door on fire to hold off the swarm.

At daybreak, Damian’s voice reaches the basement, and says Salen will be unable to hide from Damian. The bat swarm then retreats.

With the monastery still burning, the PCs and monks prepare to depart for Din Doral.
