Gregan’s wagon

The PCsRandall & Ben grab a crate of supplies, and approach Gregan’s wagon while loudly talking about “Gregan’s orders” to load it up. Thinking they also need to help, a couple of acolytes move off to grab supplies as well.

The PCs reach Gregan’s wagon, but find it empty. They load their crate of supplies, and discuss plans inside. They agree to prepare the wagon for transport, and take as many goods as they can.

The stables

The PCs enter the stables nearby, and tell an acolyte there to hitch some horses to Gregan’s wagon. The acolyte refuses, claiming that he’s already helped Gregan and Sigmond send a wagon out.

Sigmond and Gregan then appear from the nearby tree line, and order the acolytes to apprehend Randall and Ben. Before the acolytes can react, Randall gets Hal to swing around the Rod of Rising in the stables. Several pillars of earth erupt from the ground, sending horses and acolytes flying.

In the chaos, Randall casts Gaseous Form on himself and Ben, and together they float out of the stables undetected. Moments later, the Chimera blasts the stables with dragon breath, which causes Sigmond and Gregan to retreat back to the tree line.

Showdown

The PCs float into the tree line, near Sigmond, Gregan, and two acolyte guards. They overhear Gregan urging Sigmond to abandon the camp, especially as they’ve already sent off their goods. The PCs then see the camp break before the Chimera’s onslaught, with acolytes fleeing and the Chimera hot on their heels.

Ben floats over to the nearby fanatics, and in one swift set of movements, he breaks Gaseous Form and eliminates both acolyte guards. Hal then uses the Rod of Rising on the ground between Sigmond and Gregan, sending both men crashing into the dirt. Gregan curses Randall, who ends the merchant with a single crossbow shot.

Clinging on to life, Sigmond crawls away from the PCs while begging for their and Pandemona’s mercy. Ben coolly draws his bow and shoots Sigmond between the eyes. Ben then proclaims Sigmond and Gregan as sacrifices to Pandemona.

Aftermath

With the Chimera still chasing acolytes through the distant forest, the PCs agree they make a good team, and could both use a friend. They decide to set off together in search of a resting place, and then perhaps a less fanatic-filled adventure. Moments into their journey, Randall launches into an explanation about his powers and the Swarm.
